This is what I have VIN# 13671K139051 wich to my understanding means malibu body 2dr coupe built in 71 in kansas city production # 139051. Is that correct?

New to this forum just trying to figure out some info on my 71 454ss. Wanting to see if it is a SS for sure. It has all the right options, 706 meaning it has black vinyl buckets wich it has, M22 4 speed, cowl induction hood and a sticker in the glove box from 1974 from an oil change saying 454 4bbl. So if it is a clone they did a pretty good job of faking it.

does anybody know how many 71s were set up like this?

I have the same El Camino as you only about a month apart in build date. If the M22 is matching # to the car then you have a SS454. The M22 was only available behind the 454 in '71 and the 454 was only available in the SS. This is per Colvins book.

...at least I *think* thats right. Anyone else?

Can anybody help me figure out the body tag? paint code etc, im having trouble figuring the second and third lines. about all I can figure out is 706 is black buckets and the 01B is second week in jan is this right?

K - Plant code for Leeds (Kansas City)
146479 - Body Ident number (not same as vin, part of the DP SEQ NO from boX 24 of build sheet, is first part of the last line 07335, e.g. "146479 07335" and it just an internal plant processing code, nothing usefull. Leeds (not any other plants) used the the first part of DP SEQ NO for the body number, it was all tied into the computer processing system. Leeds was a GMAD plant building various other GM modesl, i.e. Olds, Pontiac etc.

DP SEQ NO - DATA PROCESSING SEQUENCE NUMBER

Not sure of their location on an ElCamino, if you can, remove the gas tank and see if the build sheet is on the top of the tank. I just bought a 71 LS 5 4-spd and found the build sheet yesterday.
