: removing oil stains from ceramic coated headers

I pulled the engine from my car this weekend to have it professionaly rebuilt (a large hole in the oil pan motivated me.) Oil leaks have caused my headers to look terrible. They are ceramic coated gray. Do you think I can sand them clean? Or use some type of chemical to restore them.
Thanks,
Pat

If you find out, can you post it on how you got it off? I have the same problem with oil stains on my ceramics. Thanks!

I have JetHot coated headers. Once they get oilstained you are done. They don't recommend any cleaner except warm soap and water and this will not remove the stains. I tried stronger cleaners such as Windex and even carb cleaner. Took a little more off but not all. This will void your warranty if they catch ya.

I have used 000 steel wool on mine.... takes off any crud and hasnt hurt anything... i wouldnt do it daily, but if you have oil on them and it wont come off with a rag,it will work, and wont take off the coating. Try it in a small area first if you don't believe me.

I also use 0000 steel wool with excellent results. The down side a little stinky when you fire it up due to the little bits of steel burning off.
Good luck

Try fast orange and a stiff brissle brush. Worked for me!
