I've got the engine out of my 67 Malibu, and it looks like there used to be a splash guard, like the ones on the inner fenders, that was stapled to the firewall above the transmission. There's nothing there now but one of the staples. Maybe it was actually securing something (now missing) on the interior side of the firewall? It doesn't look like any firewall pad clips I've ever seen. Was this an original thing, and should I bother replacing it?
Thanks for any help.

I have a 67 malibu as well. I was checking this out (as mie aremissing) just this weekend. YES there were rubber spash guards. MIne were removed to cram in a big-block. But you can buy them for like 11 bucks a pair at www.yearone.com (http://www.yearone.com) part number AR8 (for 67). Now installation - can't help you there.

No, I'm talking about something in the middle of the firewall. Thanks anyway.

If you're talking about pretty high on the firewall, its probably the firewall wiring gutter. I know that Lutty's (http://www.luttyschevy.com) has them for $8.00
