What is the best wax for a basecoat / clearcoat paint job? I have a 70 Chevelle Malibu w/ 5 base and 3 clear. I just put wax on it w/ regular turtle wax but i think it could be better. Please help if you know something.
thanks

I just tried some stuff that was recommended on the Autobodystore web site forum called ZAINO show car polish. I used it on my daily driver 88 S10 Blazer which has a $200 any car any color kind of paint job and the results were much better than I expected! In the past I have found Mcquires products to be the best but this stuff looks better and is easier to apply and remove.
The instructions recommend washing your car with dawn diswashing detergent to remove all the old wax, then apply the precleaner/conditioner. Let it dry to a haze then apply the show car polish directly over that, don't wipe the cleaner off. The polish will have to stay on at least one hour at 60 degrees or higher before removing it. I know that sounds odd but this stuff will wipe right off with minimal elbow grease. A second coat will really make things shine. It can be applied in the sun or shade.

Can't be bought in retail stores, go to there web site for an order form you print out and send in

I use Zaino on all of my cars. Unbelievable results and very easy to apply/remove compared to wax. This is actually a car polish and leaves a wet look that lasts longer than any other wax I've used and I have tried many. The more coats you put on the deeper and glossier it looks (and lasts longer). Check out the website mentioned in the previous reply for some pictures and other good info. Try it and you won't be disappointed!

Sure glad this topic was brought up fella's. I've been a big fan of McGuire's carnuba wax and have wanted to find something that lasts longer. Houston summer heat evaporates the carnuba pretty quick inside a 115 degree garage. Anywho, thanks for the tip. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Check this site out. There is a lot of discussion on Zaino and other waxes from real people. Great place for information on detailing.

If you don't want to spend a lot on wax, I've had great luck with Mother's products. If money isn't an issue, Zymol (not the brands at auto supermarkets, the real stuff) and 3M products are some of the best out there. Try some different ones and see what gives your car the best shine. Some waxes are designed for darker colored cars, which naturally provide a deep, wet looking shine.

Here's a site that should give you a good bit of insight on wax, among other things.

Check out the products and also the How-to articles. Very informative.
