For installing the panel under the rear window would brazing be the way to go? what type rod nickel silver, bronze, or silver brazing . Also whats the best way to replace the little pegs for the molding clips. I ground down some 8 penny nails last time put them in some predrilled holes is there a better way? Thanks guys

If it were me, I would stick with MIG or TIG welding using a low carbon / mild steel alloy similar to the metal in the replacement and base metal pannels. By brazing, you are introducing dissimilar metals (nickel, silver, copper, etc) into an already rust-prone area. This will set up a high probability of galvanic corrosion between the two metals.

Corys website is very interesting, that looks like fun makeing your own lightning. So is gas welding obsolete for autobody work. The days of welding with a coat hanger are gone?

Gas welding isn't dead but considered a lost art I guess. I know exactly what you mean referring to clothes hanger filler rod. I use mostly mig nowadays but do occasionally pick up the blue flame for some hammerwelding butt joints now and then. The truth is you can still get good results with the torch but I'd stay away from the Brass though.

Agree with Bob, its not dead. The guys that still use GAS are the guys that are doing filler free work, as a gas welded joint is much more mallable then a MIG joint. Meaning more workable with a hammer and dolly.
I would stay clear of brass and a coat hanger. You dont know what its made of and what harmful chemicals are put on it.
I would rent a MIG or take it to a shop and have them MIG it for you.
As for the clips most now use small special SS screws. Dont know where to get them as I still replace with metal studs. I have a machine that can weld on those studs

Thanks guys I'll take your experianced (probably new spelling of that word) advice and mig weld it.I brazed one on a 67 once but only kept the car a short while so i don't know if problems arose. I'll read the welding basics by M.Sr.and get the right kind of wire.
