i need to know what i can run on 454 as far as ps setup, and waterpump, and pulleys. just bought a 66, actually picking it up this weekend. it's a ss,but now has a 350/350 combo with power steering. i guess what i'm asking is can i run long bbc pump setup on the car without clearance problems? if so what ps setup will work best. just bought a long pump, and would like to use it. i don't have pulleys or any bbc brackets yet except alt. thanks grovey

I put a ZZ454 in my 67 Malibu and went with the long water pump set-up. I think it would be similar to a 66. Clearance with the fan and radiator are a big issue. You can be very limited on cooling set-up options and what fan you can run. Standard flex fan hit the alternator pulley. I had to modify the fan shroud as well. Running a 17" fan. It will work but must be patient when putting it all together. I used brackets and pulleys from summit for the alternator and power steering set-up. The power steering is a later model that is all one piece versus the original ss 396 style with a remote reservoir. I am also running the big block 4-row radiator. It looks really good but very tight clearance between the radiator and fan. I'm actually going to convert back to orginal short style water pump this winter. to gain some clearance and free up some further cooling options. Hope this helps.

hopefully i can use the long pump also. what was your power steering pump from? did you have to modify it, what ps lines did you use on it? thanks grovey

The power steering pump is from a 69 or 70 chevelle and the hoses for the same I think. I looked at the thread sizes needed and approximate lengths and went to auto parts store and had them look up several different years till I thought they would fit. If you would like, I can take some pictures and email them to you.
Thanks,

hey dan, i've never dealt with a swap like this before. the car is a ss,but has a sbc in it now. i pretty sure the ps pump is not a remote res pump though. i'm picking the car up sat. so i can't say for sure yet. it was getting dark when i looked at the car and i was more worried about checking out the body, int and vins on the car at the time. i do know that chevy changed the fittings at some point,at least on sbc's i ran into this when trying to use another pump on my work van ahwhile back. pics would be helpful for sure, and if you happen to have a reciept for the lines you bought maybe i could cross the part #'s and get the right ones to do the job. thanks for the replys i'm kinda new here, but i'll be hanging around alot more now that i 'm finally getting my dream car! i can harly sleep these last couple of days i've wanted a 66 ss since i was a teenager. anyways thanks again . tim. here's my email malibuman@mindspring.com
