: Best Cleaner and Wax for Black Car?
Jarret Grathwol Jul 22nd, 00, 10:44 AM I am having a hell of a time keeping it clean! It has basecoat/clearcoat lacquer paint. I was told lacquer does not last too long. Any kind of protectants available?
I keep a California Duster in the trunk.
Also, is that instant detail and spray turtle wax stuff any good?
What should I use for the interiour? (Ivory). Armour-all seems to promote cracking on dash top as seen in my last car.

72CHEVELLE Jul 22nd, 00, 11:22 AM I swear by Meguiar's Gold Class products. My Chevelle was black, too. I used the Clear-Coat surface prep to smooth out the clearcoat, then Gold Class paste wax to seal it. That stuff works for months. All the info of this stuff is at the Meguiar's website (http://www.meguiars.com) . They also have the instant detail spray. IMHO, that Turtle Wax stuff would be just like spraying water on the paint.
For the interior, sure Meguiar's has stuff for that, too. I've also been really happy with Son-of-a-gun protectant. Armor-All has alcohols that will dry vinyl and leather out, especially at temperature extremes.
Hope this helps. I'm sure you'll have MANY more suggestions following this, so take your pick. Try 'em all and use what you like best! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

Gene Chas Jul 23rd, 00, 4:16 AM I used Meguairs Deep Crystal on a black car with factory clear coat and it worked superb. The key was to polish with a glaze and then wax to minimize the swirls which are very obvious with a black car.
Also use their "Natural Shine" rubber and vinyl protectant which my 30+ yr interior seems to lvoe. It's "greasy" enough so I wouldn't think cracking is a problem with this product.
BTW, are you positive you have 3.73s? You must be running very short tires to get that rpm.
Black LS-6 Jul 23rd, 00, 7:41 AM Do a search on this topic. Maybe a month or so ago there was a post that got ~ 30+ replies. I think Zaino was the overall favorite.
Bill T SS70 Jul 26th, 00, 8:19 AM I like NU Vinyl as it actually dries and doesn't leave the oily surface most of the others do. Doesn't shine as much as the oils do but looks more natural.
I use NU Vinyl on my tires and top also. Won't cause RWL's to yellow and dirt doesn't stick to it.
If I want high gloss for a show I'll use the other stuff, but for regular use, love the NU Vinyl.

Big Block Dave Jul 26th, 00, 10:05 AM I stopped using any liquid or paste waxes, because I am tired ousing my detail brush, especially on my dark green Grand Prix with all of the plastic areas that meet the sheet metal(real good at capturing wax).
I have been using Black Magic paint protectant...its a spray on affair and you'll be done in 10 minutes.

street_racer_502 Jul 26th, 00, 9:12 PM The Turtle Wax Emerald Series is good stuff too. Comes off easy and doesn't leave the powdery residue.

Chris396 Jul 28th, 00, 9:04 PM Jarret I'll second the Zaino recommendation. My Camaro is also black and the Zaino is easy to put on and it makes the car much easier to clean. Bugs and dust just fall right off. Try it you'll like it. It's expensive at first but a little goes a long way. That black paint will look like you could dive right in and go for a swim!

Jarret Grathwol Jul 29th, 00, 8:05 AM Where can I get Zaino? None in any of the Auto Stores, everything but.
Is it only avail. online at thier website?
Chris396 Jul 30th, 00, 1:50 AM You can only get it by mail order. It only took me about two weeks to get mine.
