Hi,
I was wondering if anybody has a tip on how to install stereo speakers on a 1968 Chevelle Convertible. I have a brand new interior about to be installed in the car but am reluctant to cut holes my brand new door panels and it seems theres no good place in the rear of the car to put them
If any body has a good tip
i would love to hear from you
Thanks

If you look at my webpage, you'll be able to see where I have mine. It's kind of hard to see in the interior shot, just look real close over the drivers headrest. The speakers are pretty "thin" so the backs come within a inch or so of the convertible frame. With black interior and black speaker grills, it really doesn't look out of place. The best thing is like I said before, the speakers are really "thin" so even the fronts are close to the panel and is not in the way.

Hope this helps

Chuck, Mine isn't the best setup as far as the rear speaker locations but it is factory and works pretty good, unless the top is down and then the rear speakers are muffled.

I have 6x9's mounted behind the rear seat with the metal factory grilles. In the front I have 4x6 speakers mounted in the kick panels with factory metal grilles. My car came equipped with an 8 track stereo, hence the current locations.
I ditched the old paper cones and went with Sony Xplodes. It won't shake you out of the car but it Rocks good enough for me. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
At least you won't have to cut up your new door panels.

Welcome to the board http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif FYI this post would be more appropriate in the interiors forum.

Chuck, A lot of it depend on if you use the car as a daily driver or plan to show. I went with speaker boxes in the back floors with quick disconnects in case the whole family went for a drive and the smaller round speakers with plastic case under the front of my bucket seats. I still have the dash speakers as well. When I show the car I just disconnect the one in front and behind the buckets and I'm good to go. The one in front of the buckets are small enough to fit under the lip of the buckets and don't get in the way of my legs at all. I also secured the rear boxes with a cable and lock in the case I wanted to run into the store and didn't want to bother with putting them in the trunk. Hope this has help.
