was wondering, when I disassembled the car we took the gauge cluster out of it had dual front speakers and the speaker bracket was like right up against the circuit board, I noticed it looked as if it shorted out, there was a piece of what it looks like as white tape on front and back side of this circuit board, now where it looked as though it was hitting is right where the gauge harness plugs into the circuit board, did GM have a problem with this??? any help will be appreciated, mike

Many circuit boards I have dealt with had damage in this area. I think the problem was more of what happened when a front speaker was replaced. If they didn't replace with the correct factory speaker, they didn't fit in the bracket and in most cases the bracket was removed and the speaker sat on the gauge panel. The other defect in this area is the amp gauge traces for the tach/gague cluster. The trace ended up being the fuse for a short.
If you have an ohm meter check out all the traces for continuity and shorts.

The copper strip on my printed circuit board is broken at that same area causing the left side lights not to work. Is it possible to repair it? I was thinking of putting a piece of tin foil overlay and carefully glueing the pastic part back together???

You can repair it. If you can position the broken trace so that they almost touch you can bridge with solder. It will melt the plastic insulation back a bit but just rtv or better yet epoxy over the repair, both sides. If the gap is too wide you can solder a small wire across the gap and again insulate both sides with epoxy.

Thanks, the broken areas are real close together. Putting a strip of solder should do the trick.
