Has anyone installed new roof rail weatherstrip on a 71 lately ? If so what brand did you use. Just went to install mine from Metro Rubber today and found that it was missing one of the three holes for the plastic retainer "plugs" at the very front lower part  I am getting really fed up with this reproduction crap ... everything I have purchased so far has been wrong in some way or another ... geeeeze ! Anyone used SoftSeal ? Does it have all three plastic clips ?

Can't really help with your exact question, but restoring a car that was barely there, I've had alot of the exact same problem's. I've had to modify just about every aftermarket piece I've bought. Is there any way too make it work, that's what I've been doing. Good luck, Dave

Hi Bill, wouldn't the wheatherstrip be the same for 69? I just did mine with Metro, and I thought there were only two retainers at the front. Does your molded end require 3 retainers?

Rich,
Yup ... I am beginning to wonder if my car is "weird" :) I still have the original parts, kept everything when I took it apart and there are three plastic "buttons" in the molded ends. There are three matching holes in the body. The Metro piece is "cut away" from the third hole, for lack of a better word. I might post a picture on Monday. The Metro rubber also seems a lot "stiffer than the OEM stuff which had "channels" molded into it for flexibility. I guess it will work ok. Might just have to use a bit more 3M black adhesive on the molded ends and put one of the old buttons in the extra hole to seal it up. I would still like to hear from someone that has used Soft Seal or some other brand.

Rich,
Here is a couple of pics. The first one shows the end with the plastic buttons, old and new. Second one shows the holes in the body, third shows the difference in the old and new weatherstripping construction.
