: How much reducer

I want to try epoxy primer but the can only shows 2 parts epoxy primer to 1 part catalyst. How much reducer do I use? The epoxy primer is MP170 , the catalyst is MP175 and I have MR185 reducer. I'm not sure how much to use. I know the omni brand isn't the best but I'm just trying it out.
Thanks to all for any help

CCC, why do you need reducer for the expoy? PPG's dplf expoy is mixed 2:1 for a primer,2:1:1 for a sealer.

If you are spraying it over bare metal then I would go with the recommend mix of 2:1, if you reduce it you thin it down and you wont get the film build you need to protect the metal. But anyway I would just mix it like it says on the can and forget about the reducer...Eric

Do you mean if I use the reducer it will work better as a sealer? To use it as a sealer I would use 2 parts primer 1part catalyst and one part reducer.
Thanks
Jerry

CCC if you reduce the expoy you change it from a primer to a sealer. It just changes its film build and how smoothly it flows out.

Ive never used the Omni brand just the PPG, but PPG can be reduced I dont know if Omni can. I would ask the guy that sold you the stuff to show you the tech sheets on that product. The tech sheets will tell you anything and everything about it. If it doesnt say anything about reducer then dont reduce it.

It all depends on what you are using it for. You applying it over bare metal or applying it over some old paint? If you are applying over metal DONT reduce, but if you are using it over old paint then reduce it

Yes I am going to put it over old paint.Do you think I still should ask where I bought it if it can be reduced since it doesn't say anything on the can about reducing it?

YES, by all means ask them for the sheets before you do anything.

The Omni epoxy tech sheet says to reduce 10 percent to use as a sealer.

beware of the OMNI stuff. I have had good luck very few times with it. The only times I have had good luck is with a light color. There is not enough pigment in the dark colors to cover anything. I recently shot a front clip in a dark mettallic and literally used and entire gallon and you can still see through to the primer in bright sunlight. But I also recently shot a hood with silver and it covered great. Just remember that it is cheap for a reason.

Thanks for the good advise Guys.
Will it work ok if I just use it as a sealer first then spray a different filler primer over it?
Thanks to all for any help

I shot some PPG Epoxy primer, and had it color-tinted. Just enoght to shift it toward the green I will finially use. I did not use any reducer, just the catalyst. Course, I have not re-blocked the car yet. I think the finish coat will get some reducer.
