: Trunk weatherstrip too high

I just installed a new softseal weatherstrip in my 66 chevelle convertible. When i tried to close the trunk, I could barely get it closed. I was afraid that i was going to bend the trunk. I installed it per the diagram that softseal provided. I finally got it closed but now the trunk lid sets up too high. I guess that i could rip it out and cut part of the weatherstrip that sets down in the channel off.

Any suggestions?

We had a similar problem on our 65. After it was closed for a while and had a few warm days it relaxed down where it should be.

Rick's right I had the same thing with mine. Only problem is... how long are we going to have to wait for a couple of warm days in this area??? http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif

I've heard the same thing, a few warm days and the trunk, and door moldings will form right in.
I'm going to waite until we get some warm weather up here.
I thought about warming the stuff up with a heavy duty blow dryer and the closing the trunk and doors, Any thoughts?

I had the same problem with my 71.This was in the middle of the summer and it wouldn't close for several weeks. I bought one from Year One. It was a different shape (a little shorter) and the trunk closed the first time. Bill

I'd be glad I had the thick stuff. It will last longer and seal better.

I had the exact same problem with mine. Trunk fit perfect before I installed the weather stripping and then http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif I live in California and have had plenty of warm days and it's improved from what it was but it's still not 100%.

My 67 convertible has the same problem. One side of the trunk even sat a little higher than the other. Without the strip it was fine. I ended up taking it out. If it goes down with heat, I may try again and see what happens now that it's warming up.

This is the main reason to use Metro Super Soft seals. I never had any luck getting things to shut good with Soffseal.

I've noticed the aftermarket full quarters don't have as sharply defined trunk weatherstripping gutter contours as the factory ones. The weatherstripping doesn't want to go down as far or stay in place without glue.

Dave, where can I get Metro Super Softs? Maybe I'll give them a try.
