I've read all the posts. Is everyone in agreement that the only place to buy repro chrome inserts to fit the original SS hood louvers is from Hinshaw's?

I'm hoping Tony (1966 L78) responds to this.

Thanks,
Steve

Steve, I PM'd you...

I bought mine through True-Connections, and the stud holes (in my original scoop housings) needed to be elongated slightly... When I dropped the insert in, it was too short (about 1/8" total), leaving noticable gaps at the front and rear...

I thought maybe there were two different styles of insert (there are two different SS hoods, right), so I pulled ALL my old inserts out (at 5-6 pairs, okay so I am a packrat), and ALL the originals were the same size, ALL longer than the repros... I even stood them on end on the gargae floor, and it was about an 1/8"+ difference...

Maybe the inserts fit the repro housings better, or maybe there is a different supplier or revision so they now fit???

True-connections refunded my money, but said they never heard of a problem (which I find hard to believe)...

Anyway,

Hinshaw's is GREAT to deal with. I haven't bought from them in a while (but being in California, the shipping takes more time and I am usually in a hurry) plus I try to help those that help TC (Ground Up sponsoring this site)... Never thought of getting inserts from Hinshaws, I assumed the inserts would all be by the same manufacturer and have the same problems...

Please let me know if anyone has bought nice repro inserts that fit the original housings...

The Inserts James H sells are from the second of two manufacturers and they fit just great IMO.. and that goes for putting them into Original Louvers and repros louvers.

So, here is a crazy question. Are the repro louvers smaller than the originals, hence the repro inserts (from one mfg.) being smaller?

Why are the two repro chrome inserts different size? You would think they would mold them after the originals.

Mystery,

Nice car by the way. You sound confident that Hinshaw's repros will fit my origianl louvers, did you use these inserts for your car?

Thanks,
Steve

You can be confident that James Hinshaw knows which brand of parts are the best for 66's , he owns 66's does restoration work on 66's for customers ...more than just a seller of parts ..........If your serious about doing a quality 66 then you should give James consideration. He knows his stuff and he gives back .......he supports most ACE's regional shows.

Thanks Mike,

I like Hinshaws service... I just assumed that there would only be one supplier...

BTW, has ANYONE else had the same problem as me with?
