bc/cc is the best way. Enamels are fine and can look really good. For single stage I like to go with a single stage urethane when possible. Not as friggin hard as enamel, so it's a lil more resilient to chips.

Acrylick urthane is a very good single stage paint. I used it on my 67 DAU PPG. This paint looks great but it don't look clear coated. You can spot a clear coated old car cause it shines to much. I could pass mine off as a laqure.

I've been prepping my daily driver for a couple weeks now...planned on shooting it this weekend but didn't get time (another project came up). I've changed my mind about four times about which paint I'm gonna use but I've decided on PPG's Omni line acrylic urethane. It can be shot as a single stage or bc/cc. The best part is you can put the cc on a week after the bc so if you shoot it as one stage and don't like it or screw something up, you can fix it and shoot the cc over it (guess you could do that with pretty much any paint but this stuff is made for it). Hopefully I'll shoot it next weekend. If you're interested, let me know and I'll tell you how it turns out.

Rick,
What color are you shooting your car? I'm hoping to paint my car sometime this summer and I can't make up my mind if I want to go with single stage or bc/cc since I'm painting a solid non-metallic color.
Would you mind shooting a couple of pictures and posting them?
Thanks,

Stars & Stripes, with a color such as Autum gold Metallic, Base coat/Clearcoat is THE only way to go. Forget that Enamel even exists. That's for 87 Nissans going to Earl Shiebs to get paint thrown on it for $250. Enamel is not for the greatest car ever built. The Chevelle!!! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
Any of the big brand name paints can match you color and offer a good clear coat. PPG, Martin Senour, Dupont, Etc.
Same goes for primers. Don't think enamel or lacquer, think 2 part urethanes. BTW, lacquer is for 100% factory restored cars and/or some show, custom cars. In mettalic, it won't give you as good a look as BC/CC.
