My dash lights on my 1970 Chevelle SS aren't working. The heater lights are, and the glove box light is working, but no dash lights. I replaced the most obvious thing which was the headlight switch itself, and they still don't work. Any suggestions?

Have you checked the fuse ?
If it's not the fuse, then it sounds like you have a damaged printed circuit.
Or just burned out bulbs ?

The fuse is fine. The bulbs wouldn't all go out at once, I would think. I certainly hope it isn't the printed circuit. I bought a new one when I rebuilt the car. Those damn things are expensive!!! Anyone else have any ideas of what is going on?

Have you checked the voltage on the fuse clips? This is the little fuse bottom center. Check both sides on the clips but don't touch the metal of the fuse. This will show you if the fuse is making good contact with the metal clips. If all the lights are out you should read 12 volts on both clips to ground.

Make sure it's properly grounded. It's been a while since I've messed with one of those gauge assemblies but it seems like it had a couple of places it was grounded.

John,
don't you mean "if the lights are" off ?
So should you have 12 volts on both sides of the fuse, without touching the fuse itself ?
And if you don't have 12 volts ??? then there is a short somewhere ???
Can this be checked with a blown fuse ? If the lights are off, then I don't see why you would need a fuse there at all.

John, I'm still not clear on which fuse you're referring to??

Not John but I think he is refering to the inst lamp fuse (the shortest fuse)
If you check for voltage at the fuse clips without touching the fuse itself when the lights are out when they should be on (when tail lights are on) and you have voltage on one side but not the other, the fuse may not be making good contact with it's holder clip.
Touching the fuse itself just might cause it to start making contact.
