Does anyone prefer GM Black to Eastwoods Under Hood Black, both are acrylic lacquer
paints or should I go with ppg acrylic Enamel with a flattening agent, painting bottom and firewall before removing from body rotisserie. Thanks for any advice

I think the GM reconditioning black is an enamel. No thinning is required and what could be closer to the correct color than the generals own paint. I like it over PPG DP90LF(black epoxy primer) for added corrosion protection.

The formula of the GM recon black has been changed, and it is now dead flat. Not what most of us are looking for. I have had excellent luck with Eastwood Underhood Black. It is the correct gloss and easy to use. First choice would be DP 90, and it looks good right out of the gun, no need for a top coat.

DP90 is great stuff, but if not topcoated and exposed to sunlight it will deteriorate (turn flat and chalky). Eastwood's UH black looks terrific, just like factory.

Sounds like DP90LF is the way to go, I am not looking for the dead flat look. I will top coat it with Eastwood UH black. Going to purchase the products tomorrow. Thanks for the help....Also I just bought a DeVilbiss HVLP paint gun and used it 3 times they work great, hardly any overspray and saves about 1/3 the paint

Another vote against GM Reconditioning Black. Too flat. Eastwood makes quality stuff.

I did a test with Estwoods UH compared to the orginal black on my rad support. I cleaned a small section of the original painted surface on the support and taped a square section, sprayed Eastwoods on top of the exposed area and removed the tape. After drying fully you cannot tell the diffence - it's dead on.
I have been using it for pretty much all the parts that were black under the hood - just did my wheel wells - came great.

Which sprayer did you get.
Lou
I bought the Devilbiss Finishline HVLP Gravity feed gun. It has disposable liners for spraying upside down and the liners help for quick cleanup of gun. Eastwoods part number is 34124 and it sells for 169.00 but it is on sale until june 30 for 154.00. Also Devilbiss sells an Economy version of this same gun and it has part number 34125 which sells for 95.00 The main difference is the Economy one is made using more plastic to reduce cost. The gun is sold with the air adjusting valve,2 fluid nozzles and about 6 plastic liners
