: bad wedding day...
haughty Aug 29th, 05, 8:03 PM You've gotta love this guy... This is a true story about a recent wedding that took place at Clemson University. It was in the local newspaper and even Jay Leno mentioned it. It was a huge wedding with about 300 guests...
After the wedding at the reception, the groom got up on stage with a microphone to talk to the crowd. He said he wanted to thank everyone for coming, many from long distances, to support them at their wedding.
He especially wanted to thank the bride's and his family and to thank his new father-in-law for providing such a lavish reception.
As a token of his deep appreciation he said he wanted to give everyone a special gift just from him. So taped to the bottom of everyone's chair, including the wedding party, was an envelope. He said this was his gift for everyone, and asked them to open their envelope.
Inside each manila envelope was an 8 x 10 glossy of his bride having sex with the best man. The groom had gotten suspicious of them weeks earlier and had hired a private detective to tail them.
After just standing there, just watching the guests reactions for a couple of minutes, he turned to the best man and said, "* you". Then he turned to his bride and said, "* you".
Then he turned to the dumbfounded crowd and said, "I'm outta here."
He had the marriage annulled first thing in the morning.
While most people would have canceled the wedding immediately after finding out about the affair, this guy goes through with the charade, as if nothing were wrong.
His revenge...making the brides parents pay over $32,000 for a 300
guest wedding and reception, and best of all, trashing the brides and best man's reputations in front of 300 friends and family members.
Do you think he might get a MasterCard "priceless" commercial out of this?:
Elegant wedding reception for 300 family members and friends ..
$32,000.
Wedding photographs commemorating the occasion ... $3,000.
Deluxe two week honeymoon accommodations in Maui . $8,500.
The look on everyone's face when they see the 8 x 10 glossy of the
bride having* the best man..........Priceless.
There are some things money cant buy, for everything else there's
MASTERCARD
MalibuJerry350 Aug 29th, 05, 8:10 PM Sorry. Another urban legend. This one's been around for years under different versions.

Anyone who would spend $32000 on a wedding is nuts!
Cameano Aug 29th, 05, 8:25 PM Anyone who would spend $32000 on a wedding is nuts!
I went to one this summer, friend finally got married to his gf of 16 years. Cost him close to $30k for everything. We were giving him a good ribbing about how much cheaper it would've been 15 years ago. :D
Derek69SS Aug 29th, 05, 8:37 PM Granted, I'm in a small town where things are cheaper (our caterers make great food for $5-6 a plate  ) but we're speculating we'll spend $8-10k on ours next May. We'll have 300-350 guests (my side of the family will make up 250 of that... Mom is one of 12 kids and Dad is one of 15 kids in his family, and I have over 80 first cousins  ) and we'll be providing free beer for all of them, and they're German Catholics who like to drink :D :)
Ours is not a "cheap" wedding, and we're covering all the necessities, and will have a ton of people there. I'm trying to figure out how you could possibly spend that extra $22-24k :clonk: I know where I'd spend it ;) A twin-turbo'd 540 and a 6-speed :D

People who spend a lot of money on their weddings usually say that they want a wedding they will remember. How in the world is that gonna work if you're serving free beer? You won't remember a thing, and if you do remember, it will only be things you don't want to remember. ;)
Derek69SS Aug 29th, 05, 10:02 PM I've been completely pickled on more than one occassion, and honestly I always remember everything I did the night before... although I have claimed to not remember things when someone brings up something truly stupid or embarrassing that I remember thinking would be funny and/or cool to do. :D
My wedding ceremony will be the "special" part of the day... everything after that is going to be a kick-ass party with lots of hair-metal, and beer for everyone ...and if the DJ plays the macarena, he will be lynched. Anyone with an old car will be asked to bring it and burnouts leaving the church will be mandatory. :)
I'm working on a list of songs... but that'll be another post :) (moshing and stage-diving will be encouraged)
justkyle Aug 29th, 05, 11:22 PM If I ever get married again.. I will be Goooing to the Vegas and goooonnnna get maaaarrried.. I will never spend that much money on a wedding again. If you spend that much money on a wedding, you are only trying to show off. Marriage is Marriage no matter how much you spend..
Very expensive wedding, only 6 yrs on the investment.. Not much return.. Next time Im treating it like a total business deal.. Low investment, High return. ( I don't mean low effort, Im talking about money guys.)
Chris R Aug 30th, 05, 2:47 AM Real or not, thats the first I heard of that one. I kind of wish it really were true.
I was engaged in 2000 that didnt work out because both families of mine and hers were thousands of miles apart and it turned out she didnt want to be that far away from hers. I wasnt about to move. We had planned to spend about 25k. But she said she would have been cool with running off to vegas. I have met several people that have done that and said it was actually quite cool that way. I refused and told her I wanted to see her in a dress walking down the isle in a church. I got over it suprisingly quickly but I sometimes wonder where I would be today if I had gone off to vegas.
Chevello Aug 30th, 05, 5:16 AM We just did ours in the yard. Planned it ourselves, went and got the food ourselves, went and got the booze ourselves, and had ourselves a gooood time. Total cost was somewhere around 1500.00

70 beater Aug 30th, 05, 9:02 AM I like that story.
I went to a wedding that was a friend of the wifes family, they spent $175k-$200k on the wedding.I felt extremely out of place surrounded by all that "money".Just went to my brothers $1500 wedding.Accomplished the same thing, and was much more enjoyable.

Some of these emails that get passed around really crack me up, I usually just delete them.
But I guess some people actually believe them :)
caru68 Aug 30th, 05, 10:42 AM My wedding cost about $10K back in 2000. Very nice place and had a little over 200 people. The same place is over $5K more now. This is actually pretty cheap for around this area and from what friends tell me they paid for theirs. I find most women will not have a "quickie" wedding and want to go down that aisle and have a big reception. Thank God I only had open bar for an hour! I've never seen so many people trying to carry 4 beers at a time!

Around here all you get for $5 a plate is McDonalds, how about $30 a plate, a bottle of each- Crown Royal, Red Lable and Black Lable on every table along with cases and cases of expensive bubbly a keg and $30 a bottle wine... Add the costs of the reception hall, the wedding location, a band and a singer at the wedding, the gown(s) and tuxes. Oh don't forget the wedding party dinner and gifts for the wedding party. I could see it hitting $20k or more quickly... Not my wedding thank god, but I've been to one as described...

Let me just say outright....if you think you can have 300-350 guests for $8-10K, you're nuts!!
I got married 3 weeks ago, and we had about 150. Total was around $8-8.5K.
Our wedding/reception site was free.

Dude....you are right up my alley on ways of thinking!!!
I've been married 9 years tomorrow......and still remember us leaving the church.....tires spinning down the street as I drove the Chevelle to the reception, my best man doing the same in his Camaro:D!!!
Had a car buddy that did DJ work on the side......told him play ALL Metal until me and the mrs. were to dance......then we had a Led Zep tune played.
We had a kick ass wedding!!

Lomonte Aug 30th, 05, 11:18 PM Been 10 years next month, Her mom and dad spent around 2 grand, mine were in for about 1k. Rented Church, $100 pastor, friend did the cake, free beer and mixers, and everybody had a ball. Have pics of my very reserved (and beloved by all) Dad doing a keg stand, Tux and all. People still talk about what a good time they had. 30K is insane, but I've been to one, all ya want to drink, catered dinner w/waiters, and the best part, breakfast made on-site @ 1AM. THAT was cool. Their kids were over last weekend playin' with ours, so I guess it's all the same.
Dean Aug 30th, 05, 11:23 PM My wedding cost thirty seven dollars and 26 cents.
Wife paid it all.
velleluvr Aug 31st, 05, 10:50 AM well i am in the middle of planning our wedding - I have a budget of about 8 - 10 grand for about 150 - 200 people - our site for reception will cost the amount of purchasing a gazebo for his mom - all our friends have offered their chevelles - or oher muscle cars in the way of bridal party transportation - what is going to nab us is feeding 200 people at the reception - no open bar for me - my family is newfie(they can drink) and i cant afford to get the drunk lol
But all and all 10 grand is a cheap wedding here - we went to a wedding last summer where they probably spent about 40grand on the reception - heck 40 grand get a nice chevelle
