Last sunday I decited to take the Chevelle off it's frame. Tuesday, it rolled out with out a problem. Stripped the inside to floor boards. Only found surface rust on floor on drivers side foot area. Under side floor area has no rust.
The cross piece that ties the frame rails together, below rear bumper. Mine is bent down about 1.5 inches. Should this piece be level with the frame rails?

Here is my 69 Chevelle frame. Is this the bend you are talking about? the one in the top of the frame provides a space for the filler neck to come up to the bumper.

Thats the one. Is it level with the rails? In the past it must have been pulled real hard with a chain. Down and back.
What did you paint your frame with?

YenkoChevelle69. Could you put a straight edge across you frame rails and take a measurement to the bend for the gas spout. Isee from your pictures . MIne might not be bent as much as i thought It is pulled down on the bottom of that section. Bottom side has a V bent in the middle.

Sure, I can get you some measurements. Is tomorrow ok? The pictures you see here and before and after the frame was sandblasted. No paint on that frame in those pics. I did however paint it with POR15 and it turned out really nice.

YenkoChevelle69 If your body is still off the frame. Could you give me some measurements on the rear frame cross piece? Use a straight edge across frame and take 3 measurements down to the cross piece. Like one on each side 15 inches in or so and one in the center. Looking down from the top. Is the end of the cross piece. Straight across from the end of the side rails or does it curve in slightly?
Thanks
Ron

Hey, I'm sorry. I forgot all about it. I layed a flat edge on the outter rails and measured down to the top of the back piece. If you look at the back piece you will see a factory hole in the same place one both sides looking from the back. At these spots it was 1 1/4 inches, and on either side of the dip for the gas tank neck in the center of the dip was 2 1/4. It's kind of hard to get an exact measurement but these are pretty close. Hope this helps and sorry for the tardiness. The back piece has a slight curve out towards the bumper also.
