I just used black heat shrink tubing over the wire. Came out clean and doesnt scratch my crappy paint. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

The hood pin wires should have a coating of clear plastic on them to prevent scratching. I haven't had any problems with mine.

I just got my car repainted and my wires were old and the plastic coating was cracked. I ordered a new hood pin kit from ground up, it looks great and doesn't scratch the paint.

remove the hood, it lowers et light to light anyway due to weight savings.

My 70 had the plastic around the wire too and even over time it would dull the paint where the plastic touched from driving speed. You gotta use it or lose it. Aint no 2 ways about it.
