: Trunk Pan Plugs, How to Reinstall?
hescop Sep 18th, 02, 10:07 AM I finished rehabing the floor of my trunk and am now ready to reinstall the 3 oval shaped "plugs". I have 2 questions. 1) Can I get new ones? Mine could be fixed, but new would be soooo much better.
2) What's the best method for installation? Silicone, butyl, latex, adhesive? Let me know what's worked for you.
Thanks.

Bill Pritchard Sep 18th, 02, 10:40 AM Paul,
I know I have seen them advertised in catalogs, but am not sure where http://www.chevelles.com/forum/confused.gif
I used seam sealer to glue mine back in place, but I'm sure RTV would work fine also. And be sure to put them in with the raised center portion up, so that it is level with the trunk floor. I put them in the opposite way for who-knows-what reason, and by the time I realized I had them in upside down, the seam sealer was dried and the trunk floor painted http://www.chevelles.com/forum/mad.gif

Frank G Sep 18th, 02, 8:08 PM Paul, the only new ones I've found were in the OPG catalog and they are not cheap, like six buck apiece, plus shipping. Another option is the junkyard because they are pretty standard Chevy stampings. Just seal them with seam sealer or the black silicone sealant.
Bad67SS Sep 18th, 02, 9:40 PM Hey Bill, is that the same for all plugs or just the trunk? Just ripped up the original sound proofing from the floor and they are installed with the indentation facing downwards...
71ChevelleCoupeQuestions Sep 19th, 02, 10:14 AM I've seen them in the Original Parts Group catalogs. Year One restoration & National Parts Depot are a couple more places to try. You can shop around for a better price (but I don't think one will save you big money compared to the rest). If you go to there web sites, they will send you a free catalog (at least they used to).

Hmmmmm, good question, and I am not sure of the answer. I would THINK that they should all face up, since the idea is to not have too much floor area at a different level than the rest of the floor.

jerryr Sep 19th, 02, 3:18 PM FWIW, I got mine from OPG. Also, when I removed my sound deadner, the floor plugs had the raised portion facing up....They sure looked old enough to be original. You can see some pics on my "bodywork" page...

72SS454Chevelle Sep 19th, 02, 4:45 PM I know the ones in my car where all with the hump part facing down. I wonder if there was a different standard and different factories, shifts, time. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
All the restoration places sell them even our sponsor ground up.
