"Virgin" Lacquer Thinner @ Wal-Mart is cheaper than the "regular" Lacquer Thinner @ Home Depot and Lowes.
Both are Kleen-Strip.
Anybody know what the difference is ?
If I am only using it to clean the gun, does it make a difference ?
I alway thought "Virgin" was better.
Maybe I am thinking of something else. ;)

"Virgin" means it hasn't had sex yet. smile.gif Sorry, I just had to say it.
No, "virgin" means it is not recycled, I'm assuming. I know that Klen-strip does sell a recycled lacquer thinner.
I do know that every recycled that I have used doesn't seem to have the same "kick" as "virgin". The virgin will just cut better.

YM,
I am certainly not an automotive paint expert, but you had better make sure that the lacquer thinner they are selling at WalMart is compatable with automotive paints. First of all, I dont think there are any true lacquer automotive paints available. All it takes is a drop of the wrong stuff in the gun to make all of your hard work turn to crap. There is "gun and equipment" cleaner available at the automotive paint stores. I would use that instead. Maybe MartinSR or someone in the business will chime in also. Its not worth the few bucks you might save if it ruins your entire paint job.
Just my opinion,

It should say "primer grade"

I agree with MartinSr. The virgin stuff is better... smile.gif Recycled thinner doesn't clean as well.
The lacquer thinner found at Lowes, Walmart, etc is just a low grade (wash thinner, primer grade) lacquer thinner. I've used it in a pinch for gun cleaning only. I usually buy from the paint store in five gallon cans. Much cheaper that way.
Yes, real automotive lacquer paint is still legal and available in some locations. The local DuPont jobber has a full mixing bank of acrylic lacquer toners and cases of spare toners stacked in a corner about four feet high. I just bought some of the original color for the interior of my 58 Impala. He is charging and getting prices for the stuff that is as much as the top of the line basecoats.

Good point Vette, if you go to the paint store you can get the "loss leader" buy at usually about 20-25 bucks for a five gallon of thinner.
As far as being "automotive grade", I should have been the one ranting about that smile.gif That isn't a bad idea to think about, though it isn't a big issue gun cleaning. Lacquer thinner is pretty benign and a few drops in the gun isn't going to do a thing.
