Byfield Aug 25th, 05, 2:29 PM I know the company indicated on this tool was a wagon factory. Can anyone ID the tool itself?
Thanks

The factory, Mandt Wagon Works, would have exisited around 1900.

It does, and to be honest, I have no idea how long welding has been around, so it wasn't something I dismissed outright
Dan72 Aug 25th, 05, 3:00 PM It looks like an oxy-acetylene wrench to me, also, even before I saw the other responses. If its not for welding bottles it's obviously a multi-wrench of some kind.
BTW, according to my "Art of Welding" book, oxy-acetylene flame was first used by Henri Louis Le Chatelier, a French chemist. The year? 1895.
ROBC Aug 25th, 05, 3:53 PM That is a 6" MAL buggy wrench. Very rare indeed. #743 in the link below

Thanks!
Are you serious in that it's rare?
And would it be used for general assembly or did it have a specific purpose? It looks like a multi purpose tool
ROBC Aug 25th, 05, 3:59 PM Just a general use buggy tool but that one is the only one with the hammer cast into it. Yes,very rare
Byfield Aug 25th, 05, 4:03 PM Thanks for the info!
SS_Sean Aug 25th, 05, 5:43 PM Sell it and buy some chevelle parts!!! :hurray:

Yeah, all of the five MAL buggy wrench enthusiasts in the world are screaming for these, especially the rare 6" #743. It should bring big bucks on eBay! :D
Finally Aug 25th, 05, 6:54 PM The #743s are pretty cool but I have a friend that has a friend that knew a guy with a 7" #749. He could teardown a buggy before the guys with 743's even knew what happened. He use to race for pink slips, had a whole field full of buggies that he won.
Anyway, that's a sweet 743. You taking it to Barrett Jackson?
