A few years ago, my dad painted his/mine 71 Elky with Dupont Imron. I am planning on a repaint and he wants to use Imron again. A Dupont dealer/body shop said he wouldn't use Imron on his lawn mower. Are there any other opinions?

I've used Imron for over 20 years. IMHO, it's one of the best, most durable paints on the market. It's also one of the most expensive...and most toxic.

i would be interested to know why that person said that. i have used it here and there on a lot of things. mostly i paint engines with it. i doubt you could find a more durable longer lasting paint. but then again everybody is entitled to his own opinion.

Imron is a product that is way outdated. At one time it was great, but has changed so much due to envronmental concerns, that you will not like the results. It would be much easier to use and much better to use Urethane base coat clear coat system. The dange concens are still there but that will be the case with any paint that is any good.

68racer, I'll tell you why he said it was junk, either he doesn't have to to sell or he has a new line he is pushing! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

IMORON on "ok", it is old technology polyurethane there are MUCH better products out there. If this is a metallic and you plan on clearing it, PPG's Delta is a SUPER product. Sherwin Williams Genisis is great too.
