I have noticed on different 66 SS cars that some have the panel area between the tail lights and the between the trunk and bumper painted black. Others have the same body color.
Was this a dealer option? Should all SS cars have this black panel? Just curious.

I think early production got the "Black Out".

Im a 66SS owner and always wondered this also. I dont know what mine had originally. Wonder what Mystery has to say about this?

FWIW, my '66 SS, late-December build, Fremont plant, did NOT have black paint in the rear panel.
