So I am building a '67 Camaro right now, but am already trying to figure out what I will get into next. The Camaro was a straight forward restoration, but with my next car I want to do some fab/mod work. More of a G machine. I really like the look of the '66 Chevelle, but can't get over the size of the trunk. Would it be plausible to cut the rear of the car 6" or so? I am not aware of what lies in between the rails back there, and where it's positioned. If so, what all would be involved? Thanks

You mean "shorten" the overall length of the car by reducing the trunk length?

The only hting is the gas tank between those frame rails (and between the bumper and rearend), other than that, just some custom body work...

IMO, it won't look good, but its not my car... Who knows, maybe it will turn out okay...

That would be a great way to reduce it's value. But it's your car...

if you must do that kind of work, i think most would agree that you should start off with a 4 door.
i think it would look terrible- it would totally wreck the proportions of the car.
and, really, the trunk isn't all that big.

Somebody restrain that man before he can butcher that car! Just my opinion, but I'm usually right.

Seems as though I should not have addressed a Chevelle forum about chopping one up. Understandable. Thanks anyway, at least take comfort in the fact that I would be "ruining" a base chevelle, and not an SS.

Remember how terrible the '80's bustle-back Cadillacs looked?

I think you should just go out and get an AMC Gremlin to start with - comes prehacked.

Doesn't look to bad chopped. I just like the stock proportions better...

I will quote this from many others on this board... (When they talk about paint, etc..)

"Its your car, do as you want"

If you like it, go for it..

A early 70's Monte Carlo already has a short back end.

I think they have a long front end but the deck lid is the same as a Chevelle.
