Has anyone had problems with a high volume oil pump eating up the bronze distributor gear on a solid roller big block chevy.I have always run HV oil pumps because they always seemed to work good but I was worried about the bronze gear on the solid roller with the extra pressure the pump puts on the gear..just wondering how long they would last with a high volume oil pump.Or if they work o.k.?I thought about using a poly gear if its a huge problem because I head the poly gear works great and does not wear out.

Comp Cams poly gear is excelent. Bought 2 figuring they would wear out. I have over 1000 miles & 3 dozen 11 sec passes w/ no wear. Using a solid roller (Comp). and a M55HV pump (old casting). Using 5w30 Mobil 1 to keep the pressure down. 40lbs @ idle. I did grind a few small channels (3?) in the lower section of the distributor shaft to allow it to oil the gear. Just a habbit I got into from tearing up so many metal gears. Get the poly gear but just hope the gear on the camshaft isn't worn.

Poly gear here with a solid roller. Seems to wear well. I have a season of passes as well as 9 moths of street driving using a HV pump and Lucas 20/50 Race oil. It has a little wear, but unlike brass the wear doesn't put metal particles throughout the motor. I would inspect your main bearings. I am guessing you will find specs of brass imbedded in them.
