Quick question for the Pros, did every LS-6 come with the smog set up? a guy at a local car show Fri. night insits that they did. I was under the impression only certain states required it. Thanks in advance

The pros seldom post here so you will just have to settle for my answer. I know of NO factory delivered LS-6's without the A.I.R. though I have had several people try to convince me their cars did even though the build sheet shows it. This was a mandatory option on solid lifter or California equipped car.

A.I.R. pumps were fitted on ALL LS6 cars as well as L78 cars and any other car with solid lifters.

By the time the LS6 came out (1970), federal smog standards had increased to the point that A.I.R was needed to pass them. In earlier years the LS6's cousins, the L78, L72, and L71 met federal standards without smog pumps though they were nearly identical to the LS6 except for displacement.

My '70 Nova L-78 with automatic had the smog pump setup and TCS. Also had the same low-rise alum intake as the LS-6.

According to my research, every big block in 1969 except for the Chevelle 396/325 automatic, had smog. My boss has an L36 427/390 '68 Vette with smog. There were alot more cars equipped with smog than what you think.
