We're talking about a 67 Chevelle 2 dr coupe, upper FRONT control arm bushings. The arms are completely off the frame waiting to be re-intalled an a complete frame/suspension rebuild.

Just had new E/S poly graph bushings pressed into my UCA's. Problem is, there is almost a 1/4 inch of total play in the shaft. The bushing flanges are bottomed out against the CA's. If I torque the shaft end nuts, it'll really pull the ears inward.

Is this lateral shaft play normal?

The shaft is the original shaft. It's in good shape so I just cleaned, painted and reused it. Could I have the wrong bushings for the control arms?? The lowers from the E/S kit were right on.

Herb, it is normal for the arms to be "sprung", meaning that when you run the end shaft bolts down it flexs the arm ears. It is very noticeable when removing good bushings, the arms "pop" when the bushing releases.

Whew, thought I had another issue to deal with. OK, so I just install the arms and torque the shaft nuts.

THANKS Denny!
