I want to have both front fenders and hood stripped to bare metal. There is a place over in Arlington Texas called Metal-Rehab, they stated they charge $135 per fender and they want to see the hood before quoting it. They run the metal through tanks to strip the paint, filler, and whatever. Seems a little high but I have never had this type of service performed before. Is this reasonable?

Sounds a bit steep to me, if they only strip the paint. I don't know what that company does, but you could try a galvanizer, they can probably acid dip/rinse much cheaper than that. Maybe they can even zinc coat (electroplate) it for you if their tank is big enough. Last price I heard for acid dipping and hot dipping a whole frame including all suspension parts was $250, so it's worth a try.

That's too much, just do it yourself!!!! Buy a big ol' bottle of aircraft stripper (It goes by the name brand BIX at the local Home Depot), and go to town!! I stripped an entire car that way, one panel at a time, and it was nasty and time consuming, but for that price, I think it was well worth it! Of course, the more layers of paint you have, the longer it's going to take, but that stuff will get it down to bare metal in no time! You can probably do a fender in a couple of hours tops, just be real careful with the stuff, it's seriously volatile and you do not want to get it on your skin!!!!!!!!!

I vote for the galvanizer also. I got a price for my frame and control arms and it broke down like this, $75.00 to strip it and $150.00 to dip it. The guy said don't even clean the frame at all, just make sure all the nuts, bolts, bushings and if any aluminum are remove prior to the "strip and dip".
If I were you I'd at least call a galvanizer and ask if fenders and hoods and an acceptable component for their tanks.

There is a place here that will media blast the whole car(body) for $800.

I thought about the galvanizer here in town but I have not called to see if they would strip the parts. As for the media blasting, for $800 I would have them do my whole car. Around here it seems they all go out of business shortly after cutting the ribbon. I can only guess what a hassle it would be to go pick up your car / parts and the doors are locked and a note taped to the door stating the business is out of business...

Sort of like all the fly by night roofing companies around.
