Hi,
I need suggestions for primer selection.
After striping the paint I plan to use DP90. The autobody supply store has both DP90 and DP90LF in stock.
I get a discount at another autobody supply store that sells duPont. Any suggestion on duPont products. They also sell Evercoat primers, any comments on Ero-fill and Feather Fill.
Can PPG NCP primers be used over baremetal and on through to the block sanding stage.
I plan to topcoat with PPG "Soft & Subtle" Soft Yellow single-stage.
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. I know alot has been said on this subject, but the choices are too numerous to make a decision.
Thanks Mike

Stick with all PPG or all DuPont, you will be much better off. The DP90 is old stock, as far as I know it has been discontinued. The new "LF" refers to Lead Free and has replaced it, I believe.
The DP90 is not a good surfacer but great over bare metal. The NCP is a super surfacer and the "say" it is a "direct to metal" primer. I personally would use the NCP with DX1791 under it as an etch, it is cheap insurance and a recommendation on the "P" sheet.
Evercoat makes some very good products, but again, stick with the PPG or Dupont.

I started using the PPG 271 primer. It fills and sands very nice. It's not cheap, but lays down excellent. Give it a try. It is also lower in isocyanytes then K36.

Dino, NCP270/271 has no iso, lead or Chromates at all.

Where do you buy PPG of Dupont primers and paint? Does anyone know about the primer that OEM paints sells? Its called galv-zinc.

Thanks for the info. But, I am still looking for any info on the Evercoat Ero-fill and Feather Fill primers. I can get a great deal on these and wondering if they are low or high quality. Would they be ompatible with the PPG single-stage urethane top coat. I know the Evercoat fillers are great and work with all the quality brand names.
Thanks

You will be disapointed with the performance of NCP primer down the road. It get hard as a rock, just like laquer. It will also shrink and "tighten up", also just like laquer. Unfortunately, any non-iso product you use will be sub standard and will not perform like an iso. Just use proper protection. If you don't paint on a daily basis and you use proper respirators, you will have no problem with iso products.
