I have changed my interior from the original Saddle to black on my 70 SS. Question regarding the rear view mirror. A guy told me that the 70 didn't come with a black trim and black on the back of the mirror .. is that true? My mirror now has tan trim and the chrome back.

What color mirrors came with the black interior?

Thanks

I would think that your mirror should have the same border color as a 69 which is grey. And a stainless back.
70 might be the last year for this mirror. I think they went to the black backed mirror and black border in 71.

I purchased a 1972 El Camino Custom in Fall 1971 and the mirror has grey trim and the back is polished stainless steel.

Some early built 72 Chevelle's had the stainless back with the grey rubber border. Most will have the black back, which was a safety feature as to stop sunlight reflection.

I'm not for sure, but I believe that the "stock replacement" mirrors they sell today have to be black, because of the issue of reflecting sunlight.

Thanks all ... my mirror is grey trim (not tan) and stainless back. Thought it was tan since that was my original color.

I'll stick with what I have.
