i have decided i would like to restore my grandpas 1970 Chevelle Malibu. It is a two door hard top with a 350 250HP V8. The car was not prepped to, but was put into storage for about 13 years. I figuire i need to clean out the engine. What i really need to know is if i can take the engine apart with out taking it out of the car, or if i can take off the hood and front end of the car and take apart the engine that way. If i can't do any of thoose i know i'll have to take the engine out, and in that case i might end up selling the thing. It doesnt have power stearing which is a huge bust. It is an automatic tho. Also, do you know anybody who sells a power steering kit? if possable i would like to install one in this car. Below is a link with a picture of the car right after i pulled it out of the garage.

Why not do this first. Take out all the spark plugs and spray some penetrating lube in there, let it soak for a couple days, put a battery in it and see if it will crank over. Just because it has been sitting for 13 years doesn't mean it won't run. You just need to take some steps before you get all gung ho to fire her up. My 70 was sitting for 18 years before I got it with no carb on it. I dumped some gas down the intake, and it fired right off.

i am well aware i can start the engine that way. I still would like to take the engine apart and clean it out....the whole car is full of water damage...so i am already working on redoing the interior. I still would like to know if i can remove the whole front end of the car and be able to take the engine apart or if i have to take the engine out.

You can disassemble the top of the engine in the car, without taking off hood, fenders or other sheet metal If you want to take out the camshaft, the radiator and grill must come out. You cannot get the oil pan off without getting the engine up off the motor mounts about 4 inches. The crank, rods, pistons won't come out without the engine out of the car. Frankly, other than the fact that you need an engine hoist (or a come along from the rafters), it would be easier to yank the engine than to yank the sheet metal.

If you want to clean out that motor, change the oil and get it running. Drive it for an hour or two and drain the oil again. The inside of you motor will be clean enough. You can get the power steering parts from a junk yard to convert your car over to power steering. It's pretty easy in fact. Get the P/S pump, brackets, hoses, & the P/S box thats bolted to the frame and install in your car. You will probably want to put new hoses on it.
