: ATTENTION Texas Antique Tag users
Steve S Aug 19th, 05, 1:22 PM Let my son take my 70 up to the gas station to put some gas in it. Long story short my car was impounded and he was arrested for a 7 year old red light ticket from another county he didn't pay. This cop was very rude and ignorant of the antique tag laws (wrote tickets for no registration and no inspection), even though he was shown the receipt for the registration (claimed it was bogus).
ALL texas antique tag owners check your latest receipt and make sure it has the proper license PLATE NUMBER (not antique tag #). Somewhere along the line my original plate #'s were substituted for the previous antique tag #.

that sucks dude, i don't know about texas, but impound charges in cali are crazy expensive. bonehead roommate got one of my bikes impounded once, two days cost me $368, and they don't take checks or credit cards, cash only, what a pain....
hmott Aug 19th, 05, 2:23 PM At least you didn't have to bail your son out of jail too.. man that sucks.
EddieC67ss Aug 19th, 05, 2:27 PM Hope everything turns out okay.
Steve S Aug 19th, 05, 2:46 PM Actually I did have to bail him out $350 and pay the impound $100 (for the 30 minutes it was there). I want to get a lawyer so bad, but I know in my heart, nothing will change, no one will do anything, the cop will continue his reign of terror and I will pay. Still have to go to court to fight the 3 tickets (more cost to me even if they are dropped).

well, if you go to court, at least you get to make the cop look like an idiot on the registration and inspection charges.
Then later when you see him in the elevator, you can get all cocky and say to him "better luck next time, fool!"
I can't stand self righteous cops! I had one cop in Ohio hassle me because the trailer for the company boat didn't have a license plate. I tried to explain to him that Alabama doesn't issue plates for boat trailers (or didn't at the time - this was a while back). He finally relented. Then there was a friend of mine who lived in Providence, and got a ticket in NY for having commercial plates on his truck, but no company name painted on the side! I guess in Rhode Island all trucks have commercial plates?
ChevelleCLM Aug 19th, 05, 9:03 PM I had a local Cop demand that I had an expired antique tag (good forever in this state) and then when I told him that he was incorrect, he proceeded to bitch me out for arguing with him. I told him to get his supervisor out there, and I would call the local Justice of the peace, and the tag office for him. He was Major hot, and I never did get an apology out of him.
Now I just show my CWP, and they normally say have a nice day. I have been pulled over once in 5 years.

Yikes! Is it the antique plate that started the problems?
Cameano Aug 19th, 05, 10:57 PM When I lived in Washington St. back in '89-'90, the DMV wanted me to put GVWR stickers on the door of the El Camino to be legal. I never did, because I didn't bother to change from my Hawaii plates. Ended up back here anyway. I wonder if this rule is still in effect. The lady said ALL pickup trucks were required to do so, since they were ALL considered commercial vehicles. So technically, the cops could really have some fun if they really want to, if you're driving a truck.
At one time in the state of Washington they required official wash. state ( with logo ) litter bags . I used to carry a brand new one still wrapped up in my glove box.
