i have noticed that if you ask a question in the (wrong title group) you get told real quick to post it in the correct title group.i.e someone may ask in the performance title group about a torque converter. he will be told to go to transmissions dept. and post there. well all these (REAR END) - gear questions ,that does not fit in the transmission title group any more than it would in the engine title group.i am just trying to help make this GREAT chevelle site a little better. is it possible for team chevelle to take a suggestion and use it? i hope so. this would be very helpfull.now for my REAREND question, is it possible to identify a rearend by the tag on the cover?? here is the tag info...WDM-CL 1D30 2 75 9 S310C thanks again. p.s. please dont take this as any kind of complaint. i am very happy with what goes on here. i just think a rearend title group would help. thanks again..

WoW, my own topic!!:D Just kidding. What tag is it that you are talking about? I don't remember any tags like that on a GM rear end.

its the tag that is bolted on the rearend cover using one of the top bolts. you know how some tags read (use only limited slip fluid only). thats where this tag was. i have had it for awhile and i am over 40 so i dont remember what it came off of. thanks.

Looks like the tag off of a 9 inch Ford. I'm guessing that there are 2 lines on this tag and the second line starts with the 275, which is the gear ratio, and the next number is a 9, which is the ring gear diameter.

yes there are two lines. the second line started with 275 (check my 1st post). you are probably right in it being a ford tag. i did a lot of junkyard hunting for a 31 spline chunk for my 55 chevy prostreet back in 95. thanks..
