: Question about Emblems
madspaniard Aug 18th, 05, 12:36 AM Here's my question
At a car cruise, car show... are you more likely to
a) Pick on a malibu because it has Big Block Flags or emblems
or
b) Pick on a malibu that has a Big Block in it but only has Small block flags or emblems. or vice versa
I ask out of curiousity because i know we all pick apart incorrect cars, but i own a 66 with a 454. It's a Malibu and will stay a Malibu, but I like the look of the 396 flags. At the same time I'll blast a 69 Z28 w/ 302 emblems with a Big Block in it.
BIG EVIL CHEVELLE Aug 18th, 05, 12:47 AM I've always felt the badges should match the motor, unless yor building a sleeper. However on the topic of emblems I've never understood putting SS badges on a Malibu,If Malibu emblems bother them so much then why not delete them,I don't know I guess its just a pet peeve.
BIG EVIL CHEVELLE Aug 18th, 05, 12:50 AM One thing I do think is awesome are custom emblems, that look stock.
Chris R Aug 18th, 05, 1:22 AM I always thought that using the numbers you need from a "number set" where you can use the numbers that corresponds to your engine size looks real cool. I have seen several Malibu's with 454 badges.

They can be done, heres how another member did it,
Hey 540 guys,
I made my own 540 badges by cutting the first 4 off a 454 badge and adding a zero from a Pontiac 400 badge to the end. I drilled a small hole in the end of the 4 and a corresponding hole in the front of the zero and epoxied a small stainless steel wire in the holes to maintain the alignment. Looks pretty good. I can e-mail a picture if you like.

You can buy individual numbers 0-9 now but they are a little spendy:

madspaniard Aug 18th, 05, 10:04 AM Has anybody ever seen 454 flags for early chevelles. It would be a little trickier than individual numbers, but would be cool.
Thad Aug 18th, 05, 12:52 PM I know which emblems you mean.
Those "TURBO-JET 396/427" are like the coolest emblems this side of a Sting Ray.
I wouldn't have anything negative to say about them being used on a Malibu, unless there was a small block under the hood.
Think they might look out of place on anything newer than a 67 but they are a really cool looking emblem.
Its cool to have more than you advertise, not so cool to have less.
Alwhite00 Aug 18th, 05, 7:59 PM I don't look at the emblems, I look at the car - If it's nice I really don't care what the badges say.

How did Chevy do it on the Z-11 Impalas? They simply carried crossed flags with no numerals. The COPO Chevelles with 427s were unbadged from the factory, to the point of not having any decals on the air cleaner (did you know that?). The sin of omission?
As long as it is tastefull and you aren't trying to 'spin a yarn', do whatever you like. Those custom individual numerals sound good. There are probably a few (very few) people who enjoy mis-badging there ride just to hear all the comments from the know-it-alls (my friend had one just like it from the factory... )

$14.95 / number isn't that bad when you consider what you could spend trying to fab some together.
Back to the subject - When my 69 is done I plan on making it plain. No emblems, badges, scripts, etc. It will look cool. As far as your car (the 66) badge it any way you want it. I always felt that if you use stripes, or badge a car with SS emblems or BB engine numbers you better be able to back it up.
