supersport396_2000 Jan 24th, 02, 6:12 AM I've used about 2 Quarts of black, some silver mixed.Ive used 1 Quart of Chassis coat black as of now,but i think ill use another half quart. But im picky and ive done alot of sanding and smoothing so it took more.
If you just want it coated to protect and not really worried about the way it looks i think a quart of each should do it.
The silver has alot of laquer or something in it.It makes a hard thick glossy surface, while the regualar black is thinner. The black will be flat on the first coat and will have more gloss to it with the second coat,if you use a second. The silver is always glossy.
If you let either the black or silver dry or cure completly you have to remove ALL the shine from the surface with sand paper. If you don't the chassis coat will kinda bead up and sit on the surface like water on a oily surface. It will take more coats to cover the silver,if the silver isn't sanded.

Depends on the shape of your frame. Mine was southern so it was real smooth already so I only used a quart for 2 coats on frame and front suspention(turned out real nice). As for taking the shine off before using the por top coat I disagree( no disrespect ment). I talked to the rep and he confirmed that you dont need to prep if your covering por with a their top coat. Also you should be able to top coat at any time after the regular por has cured(2day or 2 years). I have top coated my frame without any prep and it came out hard and looking real good One thing that I can say is that I have used the por 15, the top coat , and the silver and out of the 3 the last 2 where quite a bit thicker in consistancy and required a small amout of their solvent to thin. If there's anything I can help with that I havent covered dont be afraid to ask. Thanks

ss396boy Jan 24th, 02, 9:13 AM Restomotive labs has a new type of POR paint called Hardnose. It's suppose to be better for use on the frame, as it will resist chipping better. Not sure if the grey is what you are looking for though

derekf Jan 24th, 02, 10:31 AM It seemed like I got a lot less coverage (square-foot wise) with the silver compared to the black. The rep at the last swapmeet said that the silver had tiny bits of metal in it (used to fill pits, etc?) and that's why it was thicker and didn't seem to cover as much area.
If you're topcoating it anyway, I'd go with the black, otherwise I'd expect to need at least 2 quarts of the silver if not more.
supersport396_2000 Jan 24th, 02, 12:01 PM I found that when i was putting the chassis coat over the silver it didn't want to stick very well.It wanted to bead up.On the spots that i couldn't get to to sand and degloss i had to put a few coats of Chassis Coat to cover the silver spots showing through.
Also, the regualar black is thinner and will cover more than the silver or chassis coat.
My chassis coat was VERY thick, but that helped keep some of the runs out of it,when brushing it on anyway.
But,being that thick also cought me off guard.I would brush the chassis coat on and i would think that it was fine, but being that it was so thick it took a while for it to start running.
So when i came back the next day i would find all kinds of runs.Which, being picky ,i would have to sand out http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif
Frank G Jan 24th, 02, 3:12 PM A quart of silver was more than enough for my frame. Just make sure to use multiple THIN coats.

SS396-2000,
I see what your saying now. I had to thin my top coats out some(chassis black and the silver).Let me tell you, I tried at first to put it on without thinning and it was a pain. After I talked to por and they said I should thin it it flowed real well just like the thinner original por 15. I also brushed it on
