I recently purchased a hunky spray gun for 55$ at home depot. Can I paint my cars with this gun? If so, should I expect good results?
Thanks-

Uh...In my opinion this falls under the phrase, "You get what you pay for!!

Usually those cheap guns have big fluid tips so they would work ok for primer, but nowhere near good enough for color or clear.

Frank...I recently bought a Sharp (cobalt series 1.6 tip) gravity feed HVLP gun for $165.00. I've painted base/clear, single stage, lacquer (cabinet doors) and even trunk spatter paint (zolatone) with great results . I've used $800.00 guns that are no better than this fairly cheap Sharp gun. It would be a good gun for the weekend painter who doesn't want to spend big bucks for a gun that will only be used now and then... Bill Rose

That Cobolt is a decent gun. It is made in the good old USA and really not bad at all. I have sprayed base clear with it and it worked very well.

Has anyone used a turbine HVLP system to spray base/clear. I attended "Back to the 50's" in Minneapolis this past June and there was one being demonstrated. They really push the fact that it has its own filtered system and it has the ability to heat the air. Also, the product transfer efficiency is far greater than compressor guns. Just wondering if anyone has experience with these systems.

Just curious, What $800 gun are you referring too? I use a Sata RP almost everyday and i love it.

I have a DiVilbis finishline II. It is the least expensive gun that will give you good results.

I use a Campbell Hausfeld gun myself. What a fine piece of equipment it is..... graemlins/boring.gif graemlins/clonk.gif

I use a Sharpe SGF98 HVLP gun with a 1.3 tip for some jobs, and my trusty old Binks model 7 with a pressure pot for others. They both have their benefits. The problem with the Sharpe is, a new cap and needle set costs almost as much as the gun itself, about $150 around here.
