After my car sits for a few days - when I am choking and trying to start it the fuel pump leaks pretty heavily. After it starts - it seems the leaking stops. I've checked all of the fittings and the hoses and they are showing no signs of leakage. Anybody know why this is happening? I have a '67 (396).

I just went through a similar issue with my 67 396. After driving I noticed my fuel pump would leak just slightly on my garage floor. Changed the hose and clamps and it still leaked. Started eye-balling the fuel pump and noticed it was barely leaking where the fuel inlet connects into the pump. Grabbed a new fuel pump and 20 minutes later I was back in business. No more gas smell in the garage.

Pull the oil dip stick and smell the oil,if the diaphram has a hole in it can get gas into the oil.If the pumps bad it will most of the time leak through a small hole at the bottom of the pump.
