There is a place here in Manassas, Va that will will strip the entire exterior of my 69 for $650.
I asked about plastic media and he said that they prefer to use a 80 grit garnet because it cuts rust and gives better primer adhesion.

Any experience with this?

Thanks

RUN and don't look back! That is warpage waiting to happen. Find a place that does it right.

They do do Plastic bead type stripping but when I asked him about it he suggested the garnet stuff, I am sure they will use the plastic if asked.

I would require it on any parts I had blasted. They may do it to save time and plastic is more expensive then garnett. What assurances can you getthat it will be plastic only?

I suspect that it has to do with the person doing the blasting. The shop I use, uses garnet and hasn't warped a panel of mine yet. Of course I'm only one user.

exactly, regular silica sand and black jack can also be used without warpage if the person doing the blasting does it right. I've even blasted severely rust pitted roofs without warpage, lower air pressure holding the gun at a 45 degree angle at about two feet from the surface. A customer of mine sandblasted his complete 32 Ford 3window coupe inside and out without warpage.
