Hi everyone I am sure i am covering old ground but I can't seam to fine the answer to my question. In reading the posts I see everyone likes the PPG DP40 epoxie primer. In calling the paint suppliers today I fine the standard DP40 has been replaced with DP40LF (lead free). Is that a good replacment and if not is there a better substitute. I have supliers that carry both PPG and one that caries Dupont. In talking with the Dupont salesman here, I was told that Dupont doesn't have a (2part) epoxie primer just a (1part) self etching primer I am just about ready to sand blast the body and related items and need to have the primer ready to go. I am not interested in the cheap brands I want this car done right the first time I am a firm believer in the saying pay me now or pay me later and I don't want to have to pay twice when one time should be enough. Thanks for any help you all can give

Check out the spec sheets on this link

Read each tech sheet carefully, but it may be as simple as the color being different. The DP40LF is "grey-green" and the DP50LF is "grey"

The DP40LF is good stuff, the number designates what color it is, 50 grey, 40 green, 90 black, etc. Another alternative is the EPX900 but you said you're not interested in economical products- My cost $65 for two sprayable gallons!

Thanks Baddbob and Texas70 the information is very helpful. Baddbob I said i want to do it right the first time if there is an economical alternitive I am open to all sugjestions. I just have read a few of the horror stories and experances here using inferiour products. I just don't want it to come back and bite me in the butt all for the sake of a few dollars. I am working on a 67 chevelle SS clone I may put it back as a malibu not sure yet. But I have gone with a complete body off. even to the point of building my own rottisserie, sand blasted the frame and powder coated it Hotchkis tubular A arms and rear suspension componants stainless steel fuel and brake lines and front and rear Baer disk breaks. engine and tranny have been gone through and deamed solid. So you can understand why I want to do this right the first time around.

Hey Cambo3, I totally understand the amount of work and time you've invested. I've been using/testing the epx900 over the past year, a good friend of mine has been using it for over two now. I've seen no failures and a real happy with how this stuff works. It is very comparable in my opinion to the original DP series primers. One drawback is it is only available in a nuetral color but can be tinted to shades of grey. The DPLF is available in black, grey, green, yellow, red, white.......
