Well I've managed to make it through most of the summer, doing the cruise/car show thing. I have one more big show to go to (Frankenmuth, Mi sept 9-11) But I'm tired of not having an answer as to "What's it run in the 1/4??" ..So since summer is winding down, and the car isn't "new" anymore, I want to take it to the track. (Then if something does break I have the winter to fix it). I've been down the track a handfull of times. So I got the basics. ...I figure and oil change, check the plugs (replace if needed) check the timing, then go over everything to make sure everything is tight and adjusted. The local track is a IHRA track. My aeroquip (socketless) fuel line is legal. Wil I have any issues with the short sections of rubber lines going to my trans cooler?? I'm sure the car won't run anywhere near the 11.59 number requiring a roll cage . (My 4 point is not welded to the frame in the car) I do have new racing laps belts, NNS, rad catch can, proper battery hold down, metal divider in the trunk, shut off switch, and a vent for the fuel cell. (this does NOT have a check valve) So I guess I'm trying to think of anything that I've overlooked.
My other big hurdle is my tires....I'm running M/T Sportsmans.. 31 x 18.5's I know these are meant for the street and not the strip. Is it a lost cause to even try and run these?? I know on the street they don't hook at all, even rolling along. Now I've never tried to heat them up first either. Will lowering the air pressure a bit even help?? I hate to invest in slicks for a one or two time adventure to the track. But if all I'm going to do is spin, why waste the time?? I guess I can try and buy or borrow some used slicks for the day. I have drive shaft loop I can install (required with slicks)
I'm really curious as to what it will run!! Seat of tha pants feel is pretty good and I would hope to run a high 12 or low 13. If you haven't checked my website...it's a 468 BBC with 063's bigger valves, around 9.7:1 comp, old school 292 hyd cam, RPM intake, 750 vac sec with proform main body, shorty headers, 3" exhaust with ultra flo's, re-worked TH350, Coan 10" 3,000 convertor, 4:10 posi in a narrowed 12 bolt, all steel except hood..I would guess around 3300,3400 lbs.
So other than the questions reguarding tech, should I start looking for some better tires so I can get better results???
