540 BBC Dyno and Fitech Meanstreet & Command Center Install
After 2 years of engine in my 72 Chevelle having continuous breathing issues decided it was time to take it out & have a look. Engine was built by a US based Engine Building business that a friend of a friend was the distributor for here in Australia, I had Chevelle sent there after buying at NSRA Show in Knoxville in 2013 before shipping here to replace the 350 SBC & TH-350 with 540 BBC & TH400.
Engine was tested & numbers were 600hp @ 5300 and 675lb.ft @ 3300, setup was and still is a set of Edelbrock E-Force 110cc Head (now called E-Street), believe Heads would have been purchased bare, so further work could have been done, feature 1.72 JEGS Rockers with a 01-418-8 Comp Cams so looking around 0.510 lift, manifold is a Performer RPM being fed by a QuickFuel HR780-VS, exhaust exits through a set of Hookers Comp Headers.
Plan is to dyno as it is now with same jetting that saw it run mid 11s, then a bit of tuning, after that swap to a bigger carby and see if it pay dividends. Then will be taken off dyno and remove the heads for inspection, will be replacing Head Bolts with Studs, will be switching to a Single Plane Manifold so will require some port matching & perhaps further work to Heads, will then bolt back to dyno and test initially with a carby then fit Fitech Meanstreet EFI System.
While engine is out will go about preparing to fit Command Centre behind battery, hopefully get started this weekend.
