Re: 540 BBC Dyno and Fitech Meanstreet & Command Center Install

Journeyed out to the Drag Strip on Saturday night for a Test & Tune, a 45 mile drive, cruised along nicely, have not had any issues with Throttle Body or FCC as of yet, had about 120 miles & 4.75 hours of driving time for FiTech to do it's learning, yet there had been no WOT action as would fry the rears from 50% onwards.

Conditions were roughly 62 degrees & 45% humidity, had installed a new 3500 Stall to deal with new engine output, had 28" x 10.5" MT ET Drags as used previously, only managed to get 3 runs down the track, times were:
11.22 @ 122.5
11.25 @ 122.8
11.29 @ 123.3

So picked up some MPH on each run though 60' times were letting me down with 1.752, 1.770 & 1.776, had a previous best with old combo of 1.676, launched at 3800rpm on first two runs, then 3000rpm as last outing but made no difference, maybe the track was not up to their normal high standard, thought it might improve with other laying rubber down but was mostly later model V8s & imports all with street tyres.

Some footage from inside, sorry a bit shaky, was instructed to give tires some more heat, did have to steer more than previous runs.

And outside.

I pressed the data record on all runs as well as different cruising speeds but failed to capture any data, will have to solve this issue.

Re: 540 BBC Dyno and Fitech Meanstreet & Command Center Install

Went back to Drag Strip last week, Larry Larson has been racing in a Series against the local racers and the Track Staff had done a top job of preparing the track, decided to go all out, hired a trailer so wouldn't have to be changing tires out there in Summer heat, also decided to drop the rear exhaust and fit some extensions, had acquired some slightly used slicks as last pair were cactus.

Conditions in the Afternoon/Evening were 82 degrees & 51% humidity, first run resulted in 11.415 @ 126.77, a pickup of over 3mph since previous best, however the 2 second 60' time was a downer, just unloaded tires hard, I put the increase in MPH down to fact a couple of months ago had a Happy Laps event at local raceway, was able to make multiple passes down straight giving ECU plenty of time to learn under WOT conditions, resulted in PB for splits over rear 3/4 of strip.

Times Slip:
RT: 0.042
60': 2.013
330': 5.105
660': 7.545
MPH: 101.19
1000': 9.64
ET: 11.415
MPH: 126.77

Dropped some air out of Slicks and altered Launch Retard from MSD Programmable and headed back to Staging Lanes, however the next three runs were all dismal, kept going lean & falling over, gave time in between runs to cool down, had 1/2 tank of fuel in tank from Tank Inc which features internal baffling & fuel tray so don't believe that is issue, back in the pits with car stationary was getting 58psi at idle however when increasing RPM the Fuel Pressure was dropping by 10-15psi.

Have done a Free Flow test on Pump and was bang on 340LPH, have contacted FiTech but did not offer any valid reasons or fixes, at this stage I am planning on replacing the Internal Regulator on Throttle Body, if that does not fix issue will replace Fuel Pump.

Some footage of runs.

Re: 540 BBC Dyno and Fitech Meanstreet & Command Center Install

Returned to the track this past weekend after replacing the Fuel Pump in the Tank with an Aeromotive Stealth 340 Pump, did a flow test & numbers were looking good.

This time drove to the track, air temperature was in the high 80s, car was running between 180-190 on 45 mile journey, filled up the tank before leaving so would have arrived with 3/4 of a tank minimum.

First pass left on Trans-brake at around 3500 and nosed over after 60 foot mark so cruised to finish line, drove back to staging lanes this time with plan to only foot-brake, left at about 2800 and leaned out again after 60 foot mark, backed off but then got back into it and crossed the line at 121mph.

Returned to the Pits, popped the hood, the Fuel Pressure Gauge was only reading 40psi, had acquired a replacement Bosch Fuel Regulator to suit Throttle Body, fire engine back up and pressure was back to 58psi.

Was feeling confident on third run, stayed with the foot-braking, however was again nosed over after 60 foot, got out of it then back into and crossed line at 119mph.

On fourth run foot braked again, even less rpm then previous run and shifted into second at 4000rpm, however kept going lean so cruise to end once again.

Drove home with no issues, reviewed Datalogs, confirmed going Lean after launch, but the 2nd & 3rd run where I pedaled showed that was running perfect over back half of track.

From this am thinking the Fitech does not like under hood heat or the Tanks Inc setup cannot cope with sudden acceleration despite it's baffling & internal fuel tray.
