Question More opinions.... what do you guys think?

Check this one out. It does not have a build sheet and I am not sure it is a "real" SS.. neither is the seller. Check out all the photos and let me know what you guys think.

http://www.fototime.com/ftweb/bin/ft.dll/detailfs?userid={DA587F11-F844-4D37-9C5E-1C7CF554A297}&ndx=0&slideshow=0&AlbumId={0CA3F0F4-965A-4995-8DB0-91C6C359A3BE}&GroupId=&screenheight=720

Again, I don't care if I buy a clone but I would like it to have many correct SS parts, like the square trailing arms if possible. I am more looking for a quality build, with the 454 4 speed (or manual).

The red/white one I looked at yesterday was a real SS (I believe) but there is no way I would pay $40k for that car... real SS or not, it was a crap build and not a frame off as stated.

Thanks!

What was the seller asking for it? Or did I miss that in the post?

Its on ebay. The bidding is at $24k but reserve not met yet so I don't know what they are willing to sell it for.

I take it that car is in Ohio? If so and I were you I would contact Dave Birdwell (member of this site) and see if you can hire him to do an inspection for you.or if it is in eastern ohio contact Robinls5 and see if he would do it. Both very qualified.

I don't think it's a real SS. The rear lower control arms aren't boxed in and no rear frame support brackets. I would check the bottom on this one good seems like it was rattle canned over all the crap that was already there. Looks like it had A/C from where the heater hoses run to the firewall and the big box.

Yea, I am only semi interested. It seems pieced together.

I noticed those incorrect control arms right away so I think you are right. They pieced it all together and are probably trying to get top dollar for it.... surprise, surprise.

Most of his stuff is pieced together. He always has lots of inventory and most are clones. I'm not sure he is "officially" a dealer, but I would be very careful here.

Re: More opinions.... what do you guys think?

It had a high bid of $35,000 last week without hitting its reserve. This seller uses correct and excellent too often. The use of meaningless open ended terms that should set off red flags. That's generally not how someone with a nice car describes it. Beware of recent restorations that have had a color change to red.

You stated once that you live somewhere in Southern California, you left your profile blank. I would concentrate on cars from in that area. This is prime car show and cruise in season. They are everywhere, schools, churches, restaraunt parking lots, auto parts stores, etc. Go to as many as you can, look at the cars, talk to the owners, ask if they know of any for sale. By doing this it will help train your eyes and familiarize yourself with what to look for. You may also wind up finding a good deal on a car, there are a lot of owners that think about selling but aren't excited about advertising them.

That trunk floor is rough. To be honest, the underneath of that car looks like 90 percent of cars you see at local car shows and cruise-ins. But this one does have that pieced together look to it.
