Another Claimed '70 SS454 Worth Chasing

As always, this is MY opinion only.

If this car was within a 50-mile radius of me, I would already be on my way to see it. Pretty rough, but looks to have the original 4-speed disc brake pedals and SS dash. 512 block, too. You just never know....

There is reason why some people keep coming across "the deal" and others don't.

This is the same owner as the other rough 70 you posted. I've tried contacting him through eBay but he hasn't responded. How else can you get a hold of someone?

Looks like a turd. For such a potentially desirable car, you would think they would take more pics and give a better description.

Possibly he doesn't want to give any more information than he already has. Kind of a mind game where he expects the bidders to bid with passion, not sense. Call me paranoid, but that's my take.

Not long ago all those cars were listed on Madison Craigslist. I haven't looked lately but maybe a month ago they were still posted there. They all look like junk to me.

Re: Another Claimed '70 SS454 Worth Chasing

I have been hunting craigslist daily and haven't seen these. They could have been listed back before I started looking however.

I can't believe there are actually 3 bids on the car. Unless someone has spoken to the seller, it's a complete shot in the dark. You can't even tell if it includes the transmission (there is a bellhousing there but that's all you can see).

One of the pictures shows it I think. The picture with the bellhousing

I see it now, thanks Greg. Things like this which go to validate the sellers claim should be part of the ad text. Literally, an hours worth of effort with better ad text and higher quality photos may net thousands of dollars in higher bids. Wierd.

Re: Another Claimed '70 SS454 Worth Chasing

But if I'm not mistaken, all that really proves is that the engine is a 427 or 454? Right? There is no guarantee that they are numbers matching or that the car is even a true SS at all right?

Again, blows my mind how people would bid on it or why someone couldn't figure out how to post a better ad, especially in that if it's a real 454 car.

Re: Another Claimed '70 SS454 Worth Chasing

Correct, could be any 69-71 427/454. It does seem like the seller is baiting bidders by including just enough pics to make things interesting to someone familiar with these cars.

Re: Another Claimed '70 SS454 Worth Chasing

Theres easily enough there for $7600 bid.

Potentially, what that car COULD be, is well worth more bids.

Re: Another Claimed '70 SS454 Worth Chasing

I remember seeing the ad on CL. The guy only had one SS out of 3 cars. It was brown with no motor, trans, rearend or front tires. All summer long that ad was up, I think two were on a trailer even and the white one had no front clip on it also.

Always learning something new everyday. Hope I remember it when I need it, but I wont.

Looks like it's back up for sale, with a $7200 bid.
