That would be me.

In addition to those pathetic tags, everything else on that car is wrong too -- rear trim, decklid, speedo (they say it is a 160 in the text but in the picture it is clearly a 120 speedo), and every single thing under the hood.

They even used the body # off the cowl tag on the Z16 web site from the restoration study car. You'd think they at least would have made up a different number!

Very sad what some people will try to pull. I wonder if the current seller bought it thinking it was real. If so, he's in for a rude awakening, and needs a good lawyer to go after whomever he bought it from.

The only thing remaining to find out is if they do have a real Z16 block and have just tried to concoct a fake car around it based on the partial VIN # stamped on the block. I have asked for a pic of the deck stamp to see if it is a real motor or not. But I fully expect it to be an Impala suffix, or just as bad of a restamp as those pathetic homemade tags are.

Could he possibly have the extremely rare Z16 that was produced in China?

Re: 1965 Z16 on EBAY

I don't see how anyone could think that vin and trim tag looks any where near what it's suppose to look like. He would have better luck just taking those off and saying there is no tags. I'd like to talk to this appraisal company, lol.

Re: 1965 Z16 on EBAY

Buyer beware. I bet he was told it was real when he bought it. He probably doesn't know anything about cars. He probably bought it for $15-20k and was told being a Z16 that it was really rare.

I'm sure that he knows what it is now. A guy doesn't get that many trophies, even at cruises and back yard shows, without somebody educating him.

It will be interesting to see if he acknowledges any questions on his Ebay ad.

an "incorrect" cowl tag would throw up less red flags than that thing....

Re: 1965 Z16 on EBAY

I just sent this email to the Seller:
"Hi, Roger. Thanks for sending the pictures. Unfortunately, your car is not a Z16. Nor is the engine a Z16 engine. Nor is it # matching to the car.

I own 2 real Z16ís, and am the owner and editor of the Z16 website and Z16 Registry. www.z16chevelle.com . . . So, trust me that I know what I am talking about (on this subject at least).

The VIN tag and the cowl tag that you have are home-made tags, where someone cut out a flat piece of aluminum the shape of the tag, and stamped what they wanted on it. On real vin and cowl tags the characters are raised, not impressed into the tag. I will email you pictures of real Kansas tags in a moment.

Further, whomever made the fake cowl tag copied the body # of a real Z16 (14629) from a picture on my website!! You will see that body number on the picture I am about to send you. The body numbers were not reused; each Z16 has a different body #; so your car could not have body # 14629 even if it was a real Z16.

You stated in the auction that it has a 160 mph speedometer, but in the pics I can see that it is a 120 mph speedometer.

The rear trim on Z16ís is totally different. Look at any of the pics on my website.

Lastly, the engine you have is not a Z16 engine. It is not even a 1965 engine. It is a 1966 Chevelle 396/360 HP engine. With that casting #, the deckstamps mean:
TIIIIEF means Tonawanda engine plant, November 11, 396/360 HP 66 Chevelle application.

F105961 is the last 7 digits of the VIN number of the car that that engine originally came in. Which do not match the vin # on your title.
The head casting # is also for OVAL port 1966 396 heads, which were used on 396/325HP and 396/360HP engines. Not on 375HP engines, which used square port heads.

I sincerely hope you did not buy this car thinking it was a real Z16 and pay a real Z16 price for it. If you did, you need to hire a good lawyer and sue whomever sold it to you. You also need to go to Axxxx Motor Sales who performed your appraisal and demand your money back, because they obviously do not know what they are doing.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, if you did not already know all of this.

Thanks- Jeff Helms"
We'll see if any of the statements in the the auction change now ...

If only he had left the car black. No one would have ever suspected!!!
After all, it does have a 396 in it. You have to wonder who is bidding on it.
