68 396 engine

I removed the 68 396 that has been in my 70 for the past 20 + years and am in the process of putting in a 70 396. The block is casting #3916323 dated H-18-7 and has the following on the deck pad, TO825IV which is a pass car 325hp and partial VIN # 18S111057. The heads are casting#'s 3917215 and dated J-25-7 and K-9-7 which are not original to the block according to the assembly date. I don't know much of anything about the internals other than it has a solid lifter cam. This engine starts and runs fine and has a couple of small leaks here and there but would be a good one for somebody looking for a 68 396. The engine is complete minus the intake and exhaust manifolds and the water pump. Any ideas what it might be worth??

Re: 68 396 engine

A couple of years ago I found a 396 for my '68 Chevelle project. It was a '68 325 HP engine from a '68 Chevelle SS (ED suffix). It ran nice and smooth, and I paid $1000. I installed a mild Crane performance cam, and I'm glad I did, because the old cam was pretty well shot. I'm pretty pleased with the deal overall.

Re: 68 396 engine

I sold a running a 68 396 a few years back and I believe the price was right around $1000.
