about .04 cents a pound.
There's nothing wrong with the rear end, but most folks will wait until a 12 bolt comes along. I had a 66 chevelle 10 bolt 308 posi rearend, I actually got a hundred bucks for it, it was drum to drum. So there is some folks who may buy it, it just may take some time to find the person. jim

Re: 10-bolt posi 2.73 70 Chevelle rear end?

If your was like mine it had the original 70 brake drums that are finned and in good shape and are probably worth more than than the whole rear so if they are still in good shape don't let them get away. I actually kept my whole brake flange parking brake cables and brake pads and changed them over to my 12 bolt. They are exactly the same from a Malibu to SS from 10 bolt to a 12 bolt. No difference.

GOOD GAWD!!!!!!

For real?

I couldn't give two of them away around here, so I torched each of them into 3 pieces to make them easier to load for scrap.

There are plenty of people that want those 2.73's for highway cruising. The fact thats its a posi is icing on the cake.I always clean them nice, add a fresh coat of Krylon semi-flat and add the posi tag to the cover if its missing.
I sold one yesterday for $400

I had one I just sold, and it went for $250. I was just looking to unload it quickly, not make a killing. Of course it was gone in less than 30 hours, so I probably could have gotten a fair amount more if I advertised it higher.

Are 8.2 inch ring gears very durable?

and i say right on. boy my car would go 200mph with a 2.73 posi. and it might even get an even 10 mpg, come on guys dont scrap them. heck the brake lines and backing plates are the same as 12 bolts.

i need motivation

Re: 10-bolt posi 2.73 70 Chevelle rear end?

guys ......... anymore almost any PART that could bolt onto these cars is worth keeping !!
sure You & I would rather put a 12 bolt posi 3.31 under it ..... but IF I was forced into driving everyday 100 miles each way a 2.73 or 2.56 would look like a VERY desirable option IMO

Re: 10-bolt posi 2.73 70 Chevelle rear end?

I know I would have no problem paying 300ish for one that was ready to bolt in and go. I have a 2.73 open rear now and its leaky.

Re: 10-bolt posi 2.73 70 Chevelle rear end?

Heck Ive got a 2.73 open just sitting in the yard, I only kept it because I think my drivers got at least 3.73s and I was thinking of swapping it. Then a guy down the street ends up with a spare 3.31 12 bolt, so Ive got that just sitting there collecting cobwebs, and I still have the 3.73s in the elky. jim

That's almost worth shipping them to you to sell. You'd be lucky to get $100 for one here!
