Don't use Barrett-Jackson as a market guide. That's all I'm going to say.

Re: barrett jackson 1972 chevelle clone 69k

I know i was just ponderinga bout that one as well....69k for a 72 was out of the ordinary, actually i saw a 1972 chevelle ss454 all orginal and fully documented go for only 20.5k, makes my head spin....I don't know what to say about that 69k 72 though, perhaps it has to do with sentimental value?

In my opinion Barret Jackson has pretty much ruined the market for old cars

Re: barrett jackson 1972 chevelle clone 69k

my point is this, there are two kinds of people! THE HAVE, AND THE HAVE NOTS. and the have nots dont want the prices up high and the haves want a million dollars. I AM OK WITH THIS. as soon and the have nots get there car then they are the haves. (please explain how barret jackson has ruined the market) is this a HOBBY or INVESTMENT? if its a hobby then buy the biggest peice and botch it together and enjoy it.

i need motivation

have you tried to go buy a project car lately? It doesnt matter what it is people see one like it on barret jackson and think it is worth a fortune. I got the chance to go last year and alot of people dont realize how nice those cars really are and it really hasnt ruined the market but it certainely has increased the "value" of the car.

Re: barrett jackson 1972 chevelle clone 69k

if i were going to build a car, i would comb the back roads and have breakfest and lunch in small towns and talk to people, and ask what barn or field all the old cars are in. boy really sounds good dont it. i am aware the the prices for junk cars are too high, that is why i learned how to do all the work myself. i wish everyone luck on finding that special car.

i need motivation

Ive acually done that before and found a 69 gto judge! the guy told me it was his friends and they wanted $8500 for the car. I told him I would take it but the guy decided he wanted to restore it... (For Barret-Jackson)

The way I see it is, that basically the value of a car is what someone is willing to pay for it. I agree that Barrett-Jackson has seemed to inflate the prices but you have to remember that is at Barrett-Jackson where you have a bunch of people that have a ton of money get into bidding competition. The guy that thinks his car is worth the same just because he saw a similar car sell for it at BJ may be correct or maybe not. When they decide to sell their car and ask BJ prices and someone pays it, then the car was worth that amount. If inturn it does not sell the the seller either lowers the price or decides not to sell. Sellers don't determine the market, buyers do! What car owners think their cars are worth is irrelevant. Current value only matters to the insurance company.

Hmm Barret Jackson has opened peoples eyes to the greatness of these old
cars. They have shown, with some effort , time and money. Almost anyone
can have and enjoy a old car/truck.

If anyone is hurting the old car market it's the weekend demolition derby boys.
Yes some are big old Cads or wagons. But I have seen Chevelles, Impalas etc. All being destroyed.

In this part of Red Neck Alberta. It's all most impossible to find a old car still
running. Because these guys smash the * out of them faster than we can
find them.

If you just have the one car and your in it just for the money. For get it.
Enjoy your ride, meet new people with the same interest at heart and have
some fun.
