66 Chevelle frame swap???

Hello everyone..... I just purchased a 66 Chevelle body from a tow yard. The car was picked up from a chop shop raid so I was told. The car has no frame. But I couldn't let it pass by, the car ended up being a real SS 138 vin #. the body is in very good shape and very little rust spots. Also found hotchkis rear suspension inside car with fenders, front grill, bumpers, and trim. I purchased the whole thing for $400. My question (finally) is, my friend has a 66 skylark 2-door frame. Says it should bolt up, that he'll let me have. I tried doing the searches on google. But all I get is yes, no, yes, no, maybe. Lol. So I thought I'd just ask myself. Would the skylark a-frame fit? Any mods? Thank for your help. Alex

Re: 66 Chevelle frame swap???

Welcome to TC.
Hollander doesn't say why there different ,just gives 2 different part numbers for them.
Hollander # 1201 (GM p/n 9783404) for the Special and Hollander # 1210 (GM p/n 3878327) for the Chevelle.
If you don't get anything positive ,check with a body shop that's been around a while.
They likely have the dim sheets for those frames.

Re: 66 Chevelle frame swap???

I am not 100% sure, but I think it would work fine.

One small problem with the Buick frame is the engine mounts on the crossmember will need to be swapped for the correct Chevy stands. This is a very easy thing to do.

Other than that, the bumpers may not mount in the exact spots, but I'm sure you could modify them to work.

Re: 66 Chevelle frame swap???

Hi Alex,
The Buick, Olds and Pontiac frame is 3.27 Inches longer behind the rear tires and will need to be shortened for the Chevelle. 1964, 1965 and 1966 Chevelle Frames are identical. The 2 Door and 4 Door Frames are the same.

Here is one in California:
